For the last week the CCYD Building Trades participants have been putting their skills to the test building a shed for the Whitelock Community Farm. While getting paid to do so! We won't get too specific, but, thanks to the combination of an hourly pay rate provided by the Ready by 21 program and the paid contract with the Whitelock Community Farm participants made more than a couple hundred dollars apiece over the last two weeks! Below are some images documenting our process from the beginning to where we are now (about 70% complete!):
Demolition of insufficiently sized understructure |
Digging before we pour additional footings |
Building the under-structure |
Sheathing the floor |
Raising the first wall |
Resetting chop station |
Making sure that the first wall is plumb |
Our design called for 6:12 pitch roof which, in reality, looked extreme so we decreased it to a 4:12 |
Installing blocking for siding |
Interpretive dance also has a place on the construction site |
Reusing the joists from the former understructure as joists for a new loft |
