Update!: John Eager Howard Elementary Garden Shed Underway!

Update: I'm sorry that I haven't posted documentation of all the cool stuff that the CCYD Building Trades participants have been up to for the last few months. Whew! This summer was busy! Scroll to the bottom to see a few pics of the finished product.

Two weeks ago the CCYD Building Trades Program began construction of a garden shed at John Eager Howard Elementary school. The shed will have two entrances, garden tool racks, and a green roof.

We begin to add blocking to allow sheathing to fit neatly over footings

Installing the joists

More blocking and a sheathed roof

Installing the perimeter which will hold in the multiple layers that make up a green roof

Some of the last bit of blocking

Sorry for the blurriness of this one

We finished it shortly after the initial blog post for this project. It's ready to be planted and is ready for a custom paint job by the students of John Eager Howard!

The New Whitelock St. Farm Shed has been Completed!

The doors are on and cleanup is done. The Chesapeake Center for Youth Development's Building Trades Program participants have completed their largest newly constructed structure! As seen below the new shed is 12ft x 8ft x approximately 18 feet tall. Check out the photos and captions below to find out the details.

Here the guys are building a 3ft. wide ramp for the shed

The ramp was designed to have a gentle incline so that a fully loaded wheelbarrow could be rolled up it without much difficulty.

Here a student is fabricating the door which was designed to be 3ft wide to accommodate the entrance of large, cumbersome materials into the shed.
The site built door has two deadbolts for increased security.
